GARDENING AND LANSCAPING
LESSON TITLES:
- Plant Growing Process
- Native, Non Native, and Invasive Plants
- USDA Plant Hardiness Zones
- Different Plants Different Care
COVERED KNOWLEDGE:
- Basics of the plant growing process and the time it takes
- Plants native to the area vs. non native plants (i.e. Wild Taro, English Ivy)
- Overview of the USDA Plant Hardiness Zones and what each zone can grow
- The difference between plants and the type of care they need (i.e. partial vs full sunlight)
PRACTICED SKILLS:
- Identifying the stages of plant growth
- Identify the difference between a native and non native plant and why some are considered invasive
- Read the USDA Hardiness Map and Identify the different zones and the plants that grow there
- Identify properties of invasive plant species
FINAL PROJECT:
Plan a garden layout, and then plant it with a USDA Hardiness Zone in mind
