P1:
Gourmet Lemonade And Rice Krispies Treats
This immersive 20-Class Final Project uses the Development, Marketing, Sale, and Distribution of Gourmet-Flavored Lemonades and Gourmet-Rice Krispies Treats (i.e. a Product) to teach 1st thru 5th Grade students first-level fundamental skills in areas of 1) Business & Entrepreneurship; 2) Innovation & Creativity; 3) Research & Study Habits; 4) Budget & Finance; 5) Career Exposure; and 6) Service Learning. Using a project-based approach, students will learn about the Food Science Industry and participate in fun and engaging activities that include, but are not limited to the following:
Business & Entrepreneurship:
- Building a business from the ground up
Innovation & Creativity:
- Inventing unique lemonade flavors (e.g. watermelon-basil) and designing themed Rice Krispies Treats
Research & Study Habits:
- Gathering feedback through surveys and analyzing what customers want
Budget & Finance:
- Practice setting prices, managing budgets, and calculating cost vs. profit
Career Exposure:
- Exploring careers such as Food Engineers and Food Marketing Directors
Service Learning:
- Donating a portion of proceeds—learning how business can be a force for good
P2:
Specialty Slime
In this hands-on 1-class project, students will dive into the fascinating world of Fluid Dynamics by exploring how water moves and flows. Through the construction of a homemade Water Dispenser Machine—complete with a valve and spigot—students will learn how Gravity, Pressure, and Flow Control work together to influence the movement of water.
P3:
Video Game Tournament
During this 3-class project, students will design and build their own homemade Electric Vacuum Cleaner to discover how motors, fans, and airflow work together to create suction. As they connect a DC motor to a power source, students will explore key STEM concepts including Electric Circuits, Current Flow, and the conversion of Electrical Energy into Mechanical Motion
P4: School Paraphernalia For Pets
This class introduces students to Oscillatory Motion. Through the construction of Pendulum-Powered Art Machine, students will learn about the mechanics of pendulums, experiment with different variables affecting the swing, (like Gravity and Tension Force), and ultimately create unique geometric designs.
P5: Take-home Drone Kits
This class not only introduces the Physics concept of Motion to students, but it also teaches them the difference between Hydraulic-Powered Machines and Pneumatic-Powered Machines. Students continue to explore these concepts by creating their own Pneumatic-Powered Machine that produces motion through air pressure.
P6: Career Vision Posters And Career Day
During this class, students get the opportunity to explore Engineering principles (like Friction, Gravity, and Tension ) and the technology behind architectural structures, by constructing a Bridge as well as a Tall Tower strengthened with reinforcements. This project will provide hands-on experience with structural integrity, reinforcement techniques, and the impact of seismic activity on buildings.
P7: Health And Self-care Fair
During this class, students get the opportunity to explore Engineering principles (like Friction, Gravity, and Tension ) and the technology behind architectural structures, by constructing a Bridge as well as a Tall Tower strengthened with reinforcements. This project will provide hands-on experience with structural integrity, reinforcement techniques, and the impact of seismic activity on buildings.
